THE ARTIST SPEAKS

I met Tongo in 2010 during a creative process in the performing arts. I found his involvement in an artistic project, given his background as a textile artisan, very interesting. This caught my attention because during those years I was building the foundations of the ONOFFON project, which led to the Ancestral Inspiration collection, thus materializing my motivations regarding market configuration within the knowledge economy.

I took several photographs of Tongo during September 2010, prior to a theatrical performance in which I actively participated. As a result of those photo sessions, I experimented with digital manipulation of the photographs using digitized textile materials. As many of you may know, I really enjoy experimenting with textiles, whether digitally or by creating compositions with high-relief embroidery.

I was very pleased with the result of the textile-digital experiment, so I chose it (along with the artpiece 'Adolfo') to participate in the INTERBIFEP Biennial in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 2011.

Tongo was exhibited in the main exhibition of the INTERBIFEP Biennial in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which took place at the Međunarodna Galerija Portreta (International Portrait Gallery) in Tuzla, from September 17 to November 02, 2011.
